Entrance cabin construction update

Published on 1 July 2026

Construction works are due to begin on Monday for the new cabins being installed at the entrance to Barwon Heads Caravan Park.

The project will enhance the visitor experience and provide more opportunities for people to explore and enjoy the coast, while also supporting Barwon Coast’s broader purpose of caring for coastal Crown land. The cabins were identified in the 2023 Caravan and Camping Parks Master Plan, informed by a six-week community consultation process including drop-in sessions, camper briefings and a public survey.

Temporary entrance closure at Barwon Heads Caravan Park

Stage 1 of construction will include non-destructive digging, trenching and boring to install underground services and stormwater infrastructure. Works will commence on Monday 6 July 2026 and are expected to take approximately three weeks.

To allow contractors to safely install underground services, the park’s main entrance will temporarily close for three days, from 7.00am Monday 6 July to 5.00pm Wednesday 8 July (weather dependent).

During this time, vehicles will not be able to enter the park via the main entrance. Caravan park guests and permit holders will instead access the park via a temporary entrance off Bluff Road (see map), while pedestrians are asked to follow signed detours around the work site. Please obey all traffic management and safety signage. All affected guests and permit holders have been notified directly.

Visitors may notice increased construction activity during this period, including noise, contractor movements and temporary traffic changes near the work site. Barwon Coast is committed to keeping permit holders, guests, campers and the broader community informed as works progress, with updates shared via this webpage and through direct communications where relevant.

We thank the community for their patience and understanding while these important works are underway.
