Beach access closed at Cylinders 13th Beach for community safety

Published on 22 July 2025

Barwon Coast has closed beach access at Cylinders (13th Beach) due to safety concerns following recent tidal surges and ongoing erosion. The staircase has been under close observation in recent weeks. This afternoon, an independent environmental structural engineer assessed the site and confirmed that the structure is unsafe for public use. While the stairs may appear intact, they pose a serious risk to community safety. Temporary fencing has been installed at the top of the access point on 13th Beach Road, and signage has been put in place to alert the public. Additional fencing and signage will be installed at the base of the staircase and in the adjacent car park to prevent entry. Barwon Coast is committed to protecting our community and ensuring that public access points meet safety standards. We are currently awaiting the full engineering report and will begin planning rectification works as soon as possible. We will continue to keep the community updated as the situation progresses.
