Community consultation now open: Barwon Coast Biodiversity Strategy 2025–35 and the Mature Tree Strategy

Published on 8 October 2025

We’re inviting our community, partners and conservation groups to have their say on two important draft strategies – the Barwon Coast Biodiversity Strategy 2025–35 and the Mature Tree Strategy.

Barwon Coast Online Information Session Registration

Read the draft strategies here:

Consultation will run for four weeks from Wednesday, 8 October to Wednesday, 5 November. During this time, you can:

  • Complete the feedback survey – tell us what resonates with you, what could be improved, and what might be missing.
  • Attend an information session:
    • Join our online info session on Monday, 20 October from 5.30-6.30pm – click here to register for the online session, or
    • Come and see us in person at the Barwon Heads Makers Market (Lahey Square) on Saturday, 1 November from 9am!
  • Email a submission to office@barwoncoast.com.au by 5 November.

What we’re asking

We want your feedback on the draft strategies: Do they reflect your priorities and local knowledge? Are there gaps or information we don’t have? Is there anything not represented in the strategies that you’d like us to consider before finalising them?

All input received from the community will be carefully considered, and a feedback report will be published to share the key themes we have heard and explain how community input has been reflected in the final strategies.

Why your input matters

Community voices, together with technical evidence, are shaping the Foreshore Master Plan and related strategies. Four key technical documents are guiding this work:

  • Accessibility Audit
  • Bancoora Coastal Adaptation Plan
  • Coastal Hazards Exposure Report
  • Barwon Coast Biodiversity Strategy (including the Mature Tree Strategy)

Alongside community and stakeholder input and priorities, these reports ensure the Foreshore Master Plan is practical, informed and future-ready.

About the strategies

  • Biodiversity Strategy 2025–35: outlines our goals and actions to protect and enhance natural habitats, guide sustainable land management, and monitor progress.
  • Mature Tree Strategy: sets our vision and actions for safeguarding mature trees, planning for their succession, and maintaining the unique character of our coastal reserves.
