About the role

You will be part of a team who are responsible for carrying out a range of defined natural resource management works, operational maintenance, conservation and project works throughout the coastal reserve. A self-starter that has a broad range of experience in natural resource management.

The Coastal Ranger – Natural Reserves will be responsible for:

  • Implementation of the coastal reserves annual works program with guidance and routine supervision.
  • Implementation and monitoring of effective pest plant and animal controls within the coastal reserves.
  • Participate in a range of Natural Resource Management planning activities including recovery plans, revegetation, pest plant/animal plans.
  • Undertake and maintain new plantings throughout the coastal reserve.
  • The consistent and efficient performance of rostered activities including maintenance works such as planting, minor tree maintenance, landscaping, cleaning, building maintenance, mowing, fencing, rubbish management, and other duties as directed.
  • Lawfully operate heavy plant, including but not limited to trucks, tractors, agricultural machinery and other associated equipment.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • “Hands on” practical natural resource management skills including but not limited to plant identification, pest plant and animal control, monitoring activities, revegetation.
  • Ability to safely operate horticultural plant and equipment.
  • Ability to identify customer needs and expectations, decide the appropriate action and respond accordingly.
  • Possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal with people with professionalism, courtesy, tact and understanding.
  • Ability to work in a team, displaying respect for all members and working cooperatively towards planned outcomes.

Qualifications and expertise

  • Qualifications or skills relevant to Natural Resource Management are highly regarded.
  • Driving Licence (essential – preferably manual), Light Truck Licence (desirable).
  • The following Certificates; Front end loader; Chainsaw; Farm Chemical Users – endorsed for PAPP and 1080 use (preferable).
  • Coastal Plant identification skills, indigenous and introduced (preferable).
  • Experience in identifying and resolving minor maintenance issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising with members of the public, being well-presented and friendly and having a strong customer service focus including the ability to manage difficult situations positively.
