Final Biodiversity and Mature Tree strategies released

Published on 14 May 2026

Barwon Coast has released the final Biodiversity Strategy 2025–35 and Mature Tree Strategy, which will help guide the long-term care and management of coastal reserves across Barwon Coast-managed land.
The strategies were shaped through technical investigations, community consultation, stakeholder engagement and targeted discussions with conservation and community groups. Following consultation on the draft strategies, feedback was reviewed and incorporated into the final documents.
Community engagement included online feedback opportunities, direct discussions with stakeholders and conservation groups, and public information sessions. Key themes raised through consultation included biodiversity protection, mature tree succession planning, transparency in decision-making and the importance of protecting the environmental values of the coast into the future.
The Biodiversity Strategy focuses on protecting and enhancing native habitats, improving ecological resilience and supporting long-term environmental management, while the Mature Tree Strategy provides a framework for managing mature trees, succession planting and canopy continuity across coastal reserves.

Barwon Coast thanks everyone who contributed feedback and expertise throughout the process.
