The Barwon coastline is rich in important fish nursery grounds that includes white mangroves, seagrass meadows, in-stream sandy habitats and reefs. Protection of these valuable ecosystems will ensure fish populations continue to grow and remain along our coastline for future generations.

Fishing is a popular recreational activity permitted along most of our coast; but is excluded from the Barwon Bluff Marine Sanctuary which is a ‘no take’ zone.

The Victorian Recreational Fishing Guide is available free to all anglers, and can be downloaded. The guide provides updated information on fishing regulations. Persons over the age of 18 who do not hold the relevant concession cards must purchase a fishing licence.

Responsible anglers care for their catch and the local environment. Remember to only take what you need, throw the little ones back, and dispose of all fishing gear and rubbish appropriately.
