New boating safety video: navigating the Barwon River Bar

Published on 10 November 2025

We’ve released a new video to help recreational boaters navigate the Barwon River Bar safely. Crossing this coastal bar can be hazardous without proper preparation, especially for those unfamiliar with the area.

The video provides practical guidance on vessel preparation, weather, tides, navigational aids, and other key considerations, helping boaters make informed decisions and reduce risk on the water.

This project was a joint venture between Coastwatch and Barwon Coast. A special thank you to Pete James Media and Adam Stan, who filmed and produced the project video. Their creative expertise and storytelling helped bring the project to life and share its impact with the wider community

Stay safe and enjoy our beautiful waterways!
