Summer safety on the coast: Barwon Coast launches new campaign for a safer summer

Published on 1 December 2025

Press Release

Barwon Coast is launching its Summer Safety on the Coast campaign to help locals and visitors enjoy a safe, respectful and environmentally aware summer along the Bellarine coastline.

The campaign brings together practical coastal safety information designed to highlight key summer risks, encourage safe behaviour and positive experiences for all beach users.

The campaign, which launches today, 1 December, 2025, will include topics like jetty and bridge jumping, eBikes and eScooters, water safety, responsible dog walking, boating safety, respectful visitor behaviour and protecting the coastal environment.

Barwon Coast Committee of Management Interim Chair Peter Farrell said the campaign is about helping everyone enjoy the coast while looking out for each other.

“Summer is our busiest time on the coast, when visitor numbers swell the local populations by tens of thousands of people,” Mr Farrell said. “This campaign brings together simple reminders that help people stay safe, respect each other and care for our coastal environment.”

“We work closely with Victoria Police, Surf Life Saving Clubs, government partners, volunteer groups and the local community, and this campaign reflects our shared commitment to keeping the coast safe for everyone,” said Mr Farrell.

“Safety is key – we want everyone to come home from the beach safe and sound,” he said.

Quotes attributable to Alison Marchant MP, Member for Bellarine:
“This is a simple but important reminder that we all play a part in keeping our coast safe. I welcome Barwon Coast’s work to support safe and enjoyable summer experiences for everyone.”

City of Greater Geelong Councillor, Cr Eliza Wilkinson:
“This campaign encourages people to take small steps that make a big difference to safety. Council is pleased to support work that helps everyone enjoy our beautiful coastline.”
