Temporary closure of climbing tower at Frank Ellis Reserve Playground

Published on 25 March 2026

The rope climbing tower at Frank Ellis Reserve Playground in Barwon Heads has been temporarily closed following damage identified during an inspection.

Two sections of the climbing structure were found to be severed, with the damage suspected to be the result of vandalism. The tower is constructed of stainless steel cable with a black rope coating, and due to the nature of the damage, the affected sections cannot be safely removed or isolated.

As a precaution, the entire climbing tower has been taken out of service and the area will be secured with temporary fencing to eliminate any risk to users while an appropriate solution is assessed.

We ask the community to please not enter the fenced area and to follow all safety signage in place.

We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to rectify this issue.
