We are pleased to share the final version of the Bancoora Coastal Adaptation Plan (CAP).
The Plan provides a strategic framework to help manage coastal hazards and guide future decision-making for Bancoora Beach and the Breamlea foreshore as the coastline responds to erosion, inundation and sea level rise.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the development of the Plan. Community consultation was undertaken over two stages, with feedback helping to confirm the overall direction of the Plan and informing a number of refinements to improve clarity and respond to key questions raised during consultation.
In response to community feedback, Barwon Coast has also released the Bancoora Coastal Adaptation Plan Technical Report. This supporting document provides the detailed technical investigations, methodology, modelling and policy context that underpin the final Plan.
A Closing the Loop Report has also been published, summarising what we heard during consultation and how community feedback informed the final Plan.
You can now access:
To learn more about the project and access all project information, visit the dedicated project page.
Thank you again to everyone who took the time to participate and help shape the future management of the Bancoora coastline.

We have been advised by @barwonwater to advise all regular users to avoid coming into contact with the water in the Barwon River through Geelong until further notice.
@barwonwater have experienced sewer spills today that are expected to have compromised the quality of the water.
The results of water quality testing will determine when they can provide further advice that the water is safe for use.
Please see latest updates here https://www.barwonwater.vic.gov.au/.../alerts-and-updates... We will continue to keep you updated as further information becomes available

Some mixed news from our local Hooded Plovers ๐ฆ
Unfortunately, the nests at 13th Beach and Blue Rocks have both failed. It appears the nest at Signpost, 13th Beach, hatched, but sadly the chicks did not survive. We are unsure of the cause - these little birds have lots of introduced and natural threats to deal with.
In more hopeful news, weโre seeing early signs of nesting activity at four locations across our coast โ 13th Beach, Bancoora, Breamlea and Ocean Grove. ๐ค
Please help give our hopeful Hooded Plover parents the best chance of success:
๐ Give birds, nests and chicks plenty of space
๐ Keep dogs on-lead and away from nesting areas
๐ Respect temporary fencing, closures and signage
๐ Walk close to the waterline and away from the dunes
Wish them luck โ and please follow the signs and help give these little beach-nesting birds the space they need.
As always, a huge thank you to the Friends of the Hooded Plover Bellarine for their incredible work identifying and monitoring Hooded Plovers along our coast. ๐
๐ Donโt forget โ the Barwon Coast Discovery Centre is open extra days during the school holidays!
